Come to the Table

For Such a Time as This: An Invitation to Come to the Table 2019

By Amaury Tañón-Santos

The third installment of Come to the Table is scheduled for November 8-9, 2019 at the Stony Point Center in Stony Point, NY. The planning team is hard at work designing the experience focused on worship, joint learning – with a mission fair, and two 1½-hour-long workshop sessions on three tracks – and fellowship. The theme around which our Synod community will gather is For Such a Time as This: Change, Crisis, & Opportunity.

M&MC Highlights: Standardized Calendar of Major Events

By Lori Hylton

One of the values highlighted in the New Way Forward is that of community. The membership of our Synod thrives on opportunities to come together to support one another through shared learning, shared worship, and shared visioning.

To support the goal of increasing opportunities to come together, the Synod hosts a wide variety of gatherings each year and supports an even broader set of gatherings within each of our 22 presbyteries. As a result, there is always something exciting happening in the Synod of the Northeast. So, to assist the various planning teams around the Synod, the Administrative Working Group has adopted a standardized calendar for the Synod’s largest gatherings.

Setting the Table: An Act of Hospitality and Welcome

That day started a shift in me.  All relationships are a challenge, but when you meld together two cultures the way we have in our home it is both an indescribable joy and challenge.  I am on a constant learning curve and my daughter is always steps ahead of me.  That day, and the confession I share with you of my behaviors, also started me on a journey in my ministry and in my life of asking the deeper questions about hospitality and welcome.  How do we welcome? What is real hospitality?  How do we set the table?  How can we allow the in-breaking of the Holy Spirit--which is what happened to me through my daughter on that day--to allow the opportunity for rebirth and renewal?
