THE PROTESTANT REFORMATION PART 2 STUDY TRIP

In 2017 the United Presbyterian Council of Hispanic/Latino Ministry of the Northeast Synod( the Caucus) sponsored a study trip to Germany, France and Switzerland in celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. The group of participants was interested in having a part 2 of this study experience that would include the Reform movement in England, Scotland and Spain. We hereby announce the second part of this study opportunity to take place from November 1-16, 2022. We will visit London with emphasis on the events of English Protestantism in the seventeenth century especially the events that led to the Westminster Confession, the Larger Catechism and the Shorter Catechism. We will also explore the origins of the Methodist tradition. We will continue to Edinburgh following in the footsteps of Presbyterianism, the work of John Knox.. Also we will visit Edinburgh Castle and St Andrews. From Edinburgh we will travel to Spain. Spain in the 16 and 17 century was the scenario of an incipient Protestant movement. The most cherished version of the Bible in Spanish, the Reina Valera had its origin during this time. We will learn the story of men and women who were convicted by the Tribunal of the Inquisition for embracing the Protestant faith. In Spain we will visit Madrid, Avila, Segovia, Cordoba, Seville, Granada and Toledo. In Seville we will have the opportunity to visit the Monastery of San Idelfonso del Campo, cradle of the Spanish reformers. We will have the opportunity to make the journey from the Castle of the Inquisition to the Prado de San Sebastián, remembering the path that those condemned by the Inquisition traveled to face the punishments imposed. In Spain we can observe how for many centuries the Jewish, Muslim and Christian culture and religion coexisted and their impact on what is now Spain.
